HISTORY
The Eighty-second Illinois Infantry was a civil war unit composed mainly of German, Jewish and Scandinavian members. These volunteers were mainly from the Chicago area. The history of the unit includes such battles as Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Orchard Knob, Resaca, New Hope Church, operations around Atlanta, and Sherman's "march to the sea".
