resources and activities for primary school about St Patrick's day (march

practice including a book to read online, and a new internet tool : a free
anti virus program.
Some of you are already on holidays, some others just started them, and
some will have to wait until the end of next week : to you all I wish nice

A very comprehensive site from the Guardian, with an article, but also lots
of interesting links at the end to anti-war sites and anti-war marches. the
anti-war sites are ordered by country : uk movements, US movements, and
other movements, plus literary and artistic sites, including poetry, and
other links to different actions. This page is the place to chose from the
site you will take your students to, to make them realise that goverments,
and especially the Us government, does not always reflect the opinion of
the people, and that the internet is a precious way to make people's voice
heard.

Presidents' Day

Presidents' Day this year is next Monday. I know most French students are
on holidays, but this is an interesting activity to make them look at the
list of the US presidents at least one in their school days.... I asked
mine to go through the list on the first site, and see who had the greatest
number of terms, who died during his term, and who were the presidents
during the major Us and/or World events. then they were invited to go to
the White House pages, and read the biographies of at least three
presidents of their choice, and note what they did or why they are famous.

Web site from National Geographic offers a diverse set of materials that
describe the Underground Railroad, the famed network of individuals who
helped transport African-Americans to freedom before the abolition of slavery.

Released in December 2002, this 105-page document contains the
official counts of the number of state and local governments, along with
tabulations of governments by state, type of government, size, and county
location.
Very dense, and rather difficult to read, but you will find there all the
latest figures.
International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour (from The Scout
Report -- February 14)

The aim of the International Programme on the Elimination of Child Labour is
"to work towards the progressive elimination of child labour by
strengthening national capacities to address child labour problems, and by
creating a worldwide movement to combat it." The prime target groups for the
Programme are bonded child laborers, children in hazardous working
conditions, working girls, and children under the age of 12 who are working.
From the Programme's home page, visitors can learn about the 60 countries
that have currently signed up to support the organization's mission,
download factsheets about child labor problems, and read the organization's
latest progress report.

The "Our Documents Teacher Sourcebook" is a free resource created by
National History Day, Inc. in cooperation with the National Archives that
transports educators back in time to 100 critical moments in our nation’s
history. The sourcebook provides educators with lesson plans and
activities that will help them incorporate 100 milestone documents from
American history into classroom curriculum. "Our Documents Teacher
Sourcebook" is part of a presidential initiative entitled "Our Documents:
A National Initiative on American History, Civics and Service." A key
resource for working documents in the classroom, the teacher sourcebook
includes an annotated timeline, key themes, guidelines to primary sources,

version released in 2000) contains over 10,000 quotations, from over 4,000
sources, dating from 1950 to 1988. Some notable personages featured in the
collection include Ezra Pound, George Orwell, and Desmond Tutu. Users can
search through the entire database by name or subject, and the main page
also has an index by author to facilitate browsing. Equally helpful are the
subject indices, which include law, business, education, medicine,
architecture, love, religion, fashion, and literature. Besides being a good
place to look for quotations to use in speeches, witty conversation, or
public presentations, this database is very entertaining.

more contemporary poems. Paula Bardell, a poet and fiction writer from
Britain, has established this Web site as a means to disseminate the works
(and discussions) of a varied group of contemporary poets from around the
world. The homepage of the site contains two of its main features, In the
Spotlight and the weekly newsletter written by Ms. Bardell. In the Spotlight
contains short essays about the art of writing poetry, information about new

be quite helpful in avoiding and detecting computer viruses that may infect
their system. Some of the tools included in this utility include an email

update feature. This version of the program is free, although no technical
support is available. The AntiVirus utility is compatible with all systems
running Windows 95 and higher.
