Ophrys funerea

VIVIANI 1824

Synonym: Ophrys fusca subsp. funerea
Common name: Ophrys funebre

Ophrys funerea is a rather robust plant recalling Ophrys zonata as so as Ophrys sulcata. The lip shows a characteristic coloration, dark purple, with a brighter area around the mirror. The latter is bluish, often shining with a somewhat wrinkled aspect. The median furrow is well marked.

Ophrys funerea only grows in Sardinia and Corsica where it is very rare.

Its blooming happens from March to April.
