« There was an old woman who swallowed a fly » a class room activey I use, has 9 pages takes the children about 2 hours to complete. As they work coloring, cutting, taping or stapling the pages I would sing the song, but leave out the underline words, soon the whole class begin to sing the right animal to complete the song I was singing.
I have used many songs and activitys like these Example: · Singing In the Rain (Song) · Here comes the sun (activity and song) · Rock around the clock (song) · Happy days ‘Theme song’ (song) · This old man he played one (activity and song) · The color wheel (activity) · Jeremiah was a bullfrog (activity and song) · I’ve got, he’s got, she’s got, in my hands, in his hands, in her hands, (activity and song) · How are you feeling (activity and song) · On, in, under, water (activity) · The weather (activity) · Shapes (activity) · Origami English (activity) · I like, I don’t like foods (activity) · What is in your school bag? (activity and drills) · Draw a ______ in the box. Draw a _____ under the triangle. (activity and drills) · Somewhere over the rainbow under the rainbow . My English Book 1st day (activity) |
This Project my students loved, not only did the students love it but the other teachers as well. (Takes 3 class hours to finish) Before I gave the photo copy of the frame to draw the Picasso head, we would do drawing drills on the board (4 kids at a time, I had big classes). I would say the English word and they had to draw FAST what I said. Then you ask them “what did you draw?” Again they don’t understand your question and just repeat what I say “What did you draw?” You will answer then “a head an eye, and so forth.” Next class I gave them blank paper and they had to draw just a line of heads, a line of noses, a line of eyes, so on and so on. I would say different parts and they had to draw them. Ok you say they are learning to draw not speak, as you dictate body parts stop and ask different children what did you draw? Like always, they well look up at you with big eyes and just repeat what I say, but you will answer “a head, an eye, a mouth and so on”. It takes some time but they will understand what you are trying to ask them. |
