2 rue Balzac - FRANCONVILLE (95)

This charming little villa was certainly built ca. 1907. It was first intended as a hunting lodge for Mr Dupont. Its nice volumes & astounding roof have an unquestionnable charm ; they are inspired by the structure of one of the two stands Lavirotte showed at the 1903 Exposition de l'Habitation at the Grand-Palais.

The building has been importantly modified & the original gate has disappeared. Luckily its unique roof arrangments are still perfectly preserved. Lavirotte shows in this particular work that he's able to express himself with panache aside from usual prestigious parisian fellow collaborators such as Dondelinger, Bigot or Binet. One shall consider that parisian architects, during the Belle-Epoque, had a true artistic vision leading them to produce a stylistic grammar dedicated to the suburbian, seaside & provincial houses, which coherence is obvious in Guimard's or Sauvage's works, not to mention countless less-known architects.

(Thanks to Mr Bory Ponn for his welcome & pleasantry. )
