Bonne lecture!

Fresh Air [RealPlayer]
http://freshair.npr.org/
Twenty years ago today, John Lennon was senselessly murdered by an
obsessed fan outside his New York City apartment. An icon to millions
to this day, Lennon is remembered for both his music and his activism
for world peace. Vigils and memorial services have been planned
worldwide, including ones at Strawberry Fields in New York's Central
Park, Lennon's childhood home in Liverpool, and the John Lennon
Museum outside Tokyo. Readers can find out more about these tributes
and Lennon's legacy beginning with the BBC's site, which includes
analysis, related articles and links, and some audio and video
selections. ABC News offers a feature-rich interactive Webumentary on
the life and music of John Lennon (and his FBI files), with photos, a
discography, commentary, and audio clips. Additional coverage and
commentary is available from the _New York Times_ (free registration
required), the _Baltimore Sun_, _The Nation_, and dotmusic. Finally,
users may want to visit the Website of NPR's Fresh Air with Terry
Gross. Her show today features three interviews remembering John
Lennon, with Yoko Ono, historian John Wiener who uncovered the secret
FBI files, and Cynthia Lennon, his first wife. [MD]

Uri Geller is suing Pokemon (from ETNI - http://www.etni.org.il )
------------------------
Uri Geller is suing Pokemon because he claims one of the Pokemon characters
is names and styled after him. A wonderful chance to compare different
newspaper articles on the same topic in class. Find the articles from Game
Pro Magazine, The National Enquirer, USA Today, New York Post and Guardian
all neatly organised together on one Pokemon webpage with obviously pictures
of the alleged "Ungeller" Pokemon card:
http://www.tcom.co.uk/hpnet/pokemon.htm
articles. Quel impact cela a-t-il sur le lecteur? ]

Chanukah, the Festival of Lights, is a joyous celebration about the
miracle of the oil that burned for eight days when there was only

CONCEPT TO CLASSROOM (wNetSchool Bulletin - December)
------------------------
http://www.thirteen.org/wnetschool/concept2class/index.html
A new workshop, "Interdisciplinary Learning in Your Classroom" launches at
the end of this month! This workshop was created in consultation with
interdisciplinary learning expert Dr. Heidi Hayes Jacobs, and guides the
user through the step-by-step journey of creating an interdisciplinary unit
for his/her class.
The site will also be updated to include "tools" to print out and take to
your district to apply your work in all of the workshops toward continuing
education credits. Be sure to take advantage of this valuable professional
development opportunity! In the meantime, check out our current selection
of ongoing workshops which address relevant issues in education today. This
series is a wNetSchool collaboration with Disney Learning Partnership.
[ pour enseignants. Ce site, déjà signalé à plusieurs reprises l'an

Christmas site (VIRTUAL> Virtual Teacher 7)
------------------------
All the planning for Christmas is done for teachers on our special
Christmas site - http://www.brainways.co.nz   (password: festive).
This site provides teachers with a fresh approach to a festive study.
Teachers and their students use de Bono's Six Thinking hats to launch
into exploring Christmas around the world. Christmas customs, food,
songs, poems and crafts can be discovered through learning centre
activities based around Howard Gardner's Multiple Intelligences.
Information on Christmas around the World is presented at three
reading levels, catering for all ages and stages and making extensive
use of the Internet. Ranges of activities for students at two levels
develop essential learning skills.
The site offers templates for quick easy use by teachers when setting
up their learning centre and opportunities to create a call to social
action encourages the children to explore the real spirit of Christmas.

Computer Viruses (Blue Web'n® Update: December 8)
------------------------
Northern Light Special Edition: Computer Viruses
http://special.northernlight.com/compvirus/   *****
It used to be that most viruses came to PCs via infected floppy disks.
That is no longer the case. Anyone involved in use and maintenance of
networks at schools and libraries has to be current on viruses, how they
work, and preventative measures for avoiding the pests. This webpage
lists links to viruses and hackers in the news, organizations that offer
educational resources and companies that offer anti-virus software
solutions. One organization I found useful was E-mailAbuse.org, which
offers advice for those managing e-mail systems.

other English speaking countries (in French, English, German) ; Sport in
Germany and the UK (in French, English, German)

Each "challenge" is a list of 10 to 20 questions. There are no prizes except
the satisfaction of doing well and possibly the "glory of being the best"!
