Today is St Patrick's Day! If you haven't already talked about it
to your classes, you have to do it tomorrow! Here is a text, and some ideas
of activities : growing Shamrocks...and Irish Dancing!!!
In "health and environment" : two sites about animals, and one about a new
medical treatment for cancer; followed by handcrafts for primary school
children to prepare Earth Day 2002 ( April 22nd) : ideas for recycling
virtually anything into a work of art .
The resources for secondary school are varied this week : words, songs,
real or virtual trips...then two sites about Arts, for transcurricular
projects in lower and upper secondary school ( travaux croisés et TPE), an
article to reflect about remediation, another about Mme Montessori, and two
sites of resources and tutorials for beginner and advanced web designers.
Have a nice week!

with a style evocative of competition and meant to
relive the aggression of the playing arena. Learn
about the different literary techniques which lend
themselves to sports reviews, including metaphors,

Take a wonderful art adventure online with these inter-

tints and shades, moods, and more. Very well done--
this adventure should appeal to a wide age group.

For advanced students, there is much to explore here
in every aspect of color. For starters, take a look
at color theory, how it affects our perception, and
how we use it in advertising products. How does our
brain interpret colors? Or how does color affect our
vision? If a student thinks mathematically in color,
is there a connection to creativity? All Explore top-
ics are found in the left-hand frame of this web site.
[ similar to the previous site, but for advanced pupils : study the
theories of how colour is created and how it affects our life. idéal pour

Remediation doesn't work ! (from PEN Weekly NewsBlast for March 8)
------------------------------
According to teacher and researcher Bill Page, remediation does not
work--at all--for anyone, ever. He brazenly asks, "If remediation works,
why don't we take all of the kids who are behind, catch them up and be
done with it! Why do we continue to remediate the same kids year after
year?" According to him, it's because the premise of remediation is
essentially "more of the same." If they can't read, give them more
reading. If they can't spell, give them more spelling. If they can't do
math, give them more math. Take it slower, make it simpler, do it in
smaller chunks, do it one-on-one, offer them M & M's, but keep shoving the
same stuff down their throat. While that sounds perfectly logical, it is
the same as saying if they can't swim, throw them into the water twice as
often because they need it twice as badly. Mr. Page says that the only way
the problem will be solved is by helping teachers and students to see each
other and their work in a different light.
http://teachers.net/gazette/FEB02/page.html
[ this interesting articles show how useless it is to try and teach the
same things the same way to pupils who don't want to learn it, and hwo we
can change this by changing our own attitude towards teaching, learning,
the class and each pupil....thus triggering a change in the pupil's
attitude too.
