This week, on request of Stéphane DUPUY, a special report about
Bloody Sunday. This films feature true events, and the web offers many
sites about what really happened. After ' Bowling for Columbine', it might
be too much on violence, but our world is violent, and it is up to young
people to prevent it from spreading further and invading their lives.
Therefore, it is important for them to be aware of it all, and to reflect
with their teachers on how violence builds up and how reflection and
discussion can help solve the conflicts on all levels. "A la Une", some
more sites for Thanksgiving, which is next Thursday, and "in the News" the
last James Bond film, its stunning cars and gadgets. Then a few sites for
primary and secondary school, concerning the news, music, geography, life
in the White House, etc; an interesting site about the future of teaching;
a new translation tool from Google, and a new feature in Infonews : Jean
Sahai presents each week a part of his website.....
There will be no Infonews next week, but n°170 will come out
the first week-end of december....

Duke Ellington

composers, Duke Ellington. Offering an introduction to the many
accomplishments of Mr. Ellington's career, which lasted over fifty years, is
quite challenging, but the site serves as a nice introduction, particularly
for younger students. Divided into five sections, users may want to start
with the short biographical essay that gives information about Mr.
Ellington's early life in Washington DC, the formation of his first band,
and his compositions. Next, a section on his music lists his compositions,
including his songs, concert works, and other extended pieces. A quotation
section lists famous quotes attributed to Mr. Ellington, and other quotes
about him by his contemporaries. Mr. Ellington's diverse achievements and
accolades are also listed on the site, and finally, a photo album provides
glimpses of this American master at work, both composing and with his
numerous ensembles.

Life in the White House

This new virtual exhibit takes visitors on a tour of the many different
rooms and areas of the White House, along with the Vice President's
residence. Each video tour is led by a different member of the Bush
administration, including George W. Bush, Ari Fleischer, and Andy Card.
Other video tours on the site include a tour led by the White House curator,
William Allman, who discusses the different aspects of the State Floor in
detail. Complementing this material are a series of short essays on the art
contained within the White House, photo essays, and the histories of White
House traditions, like the Easter Egg Roll and the lighting of the Christmas
tree. Finally, information about touring the White House in person is also
provided.

Exploring the Future of Learning (The Scout Report -- November 22)

ThinkQuest is a worldwide collaboration of students and educators that
explores "youth-centered learning on the Net." A conference held by
ThinkQuest in July 2002, called Exploring the Future of Learning, focused on
emerging technologies and ideas to improve global education methods. This
Web site presents several articles about the conference that were written by
student journalists who attended the event. The articles highlight
technology trends and new innovations, as well as the experiences and
impressions of the students themselves. Some specific items that are
discussed include tele-immersion, augmented reality, and video conferencing.

on this page, you can read everything about this new project. The idea is
to involve the students in the work for the European convention. The key
date is Spring Day, march 21st, when you will organise a special event in
your school. To do this, you can invite your students to contact teachers
and classes in each of the participating countries. English is the
communication language, but all languages can be used, and the site is in

Chaque semaine Jean-S. Sahaï présente désormais aux lecteurs d'Infonews une
section de la Page d'anglais et d'agrégation, son gigantesque travail
commencé en 1996, très régulièrement mis à jour, depuis la Guadeloupe -
l'île qui vibre en ce moment même des effluves de la 'Rum Regatta'...
Cette semaine, la section Phonétique : on y découvre des ressources biblio-
et webographiques pour l'étude et l'enseignement de la phonétique, de la
phonologie, de la prosodie en classe, des renseignements sur l'UCL "Summer
Course in English Phonetics" qui a lieu chaque année au mois d'août à
Londres sous la houlette du Pr J.C. Wells. Diverses ressources utiles aux

évaluation de l'anglais oral en classe,...

First, the page provides an engine that allows users to search for pages
composed in over thirty languages. The most helpful feature, though, is a
translator that lets users translate text passages and Web pages from
English into five different languages, and several different European
languages back into English. As of November 2002, the Web-based tool is a
beta release.
