A la Une : Newseum
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
http://www.newseum.org
Pierre Méra from Académie de Versailles recommanded this site, I received
it from J.M.Dumont, and read it also on e-teach. Indeed, it is the tool we
all need at the moment!
The Newseum is a Museum in Washington D.C
http://www.newseum.org/newseum/newseum2006/
it offers exhibits on the premises, teaching material sold in their shop
at the museum or online, but also several very precious online features :
- Today Frontpages
190 front pages from 24 countries
http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/
access the list by continents, names and countries
http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/main.asp?fpRegion=usa&fpAl=fpn&btnReg=y
- War in Irak : the story behind the news
with all the front pages of the newspapers since the beginning, ordered by
date : day 1, day 2, today is day 4.
http://www.newseum.org/frontpages/wariniraq.htm
- Cybernewseum
where you can find special exhibits on several subjects, each based on the
analysis of front pages and press articles. There are exhibits about great
events : 9/11, Columbia, holocaust; several exhibits about cartoons,
cartoonists and their role in information; and subjects about black press,
women's history, the moon.....
http://www.newseum.org/cybernewseum/
- Newseum education
in this part, you find some documents that you should purchase, but you can
access for free to:
- lessons about the first amendment : freedom of speech
http://www.freedomforum.org/packages/first/curricula/educationforfreedom/index.htm
- an interactive game
Chip Tracer, with an exceptional quality of drawing, just like a Superman
type cartoon. You discover the dates and other important facts in history.
Episode one, entitled "wright or wrong" after the Wright brothers, is about
the first flight.
It requires a fast connection, and at least 3 years of English.
Spring Day
~~~~~~~~
Let Europe know what you did!
------------------------
You did something special on Spring Day : take 2 photos (of the day, or
just of your school or your classroom), write a title and two or three
paragraphs about what you did (or ask you students to write it, in their
native language)
- go to http://futurum.eun.org/21
- Click on your country
- find your school and select it
- download your text and your photos
Only 8 French schools have sent their report yet, out of over 300!!!!
see how may schools sent reports!
http://futurum_21.eun.org/list_by_country.cfm?lang=en

See what the others have done!
------------------------
go to http://futurum_21.eun.org/index-en.html and see how all the schools
celebrated Spring Day. And you can still do the webquests and quizzes on
the page, and take part in the competition!

Take part in the EUN-My Europe competition
------------------------
http://futurum.eun.org/eun.org2/eun/en/SpringSite_Information/sub_area.cfm?sa=3696
now your students are aware of the importance of Europe, conscious of how
it works....Here is the opportunity to make their voice heard by taking
part in one of the three catégories:
- writing a report about their Spring Day and its outcome
- writing a text about how they see Europe in 2025
and for teachers, send the material you produced and win a trip to Brussels!
( Jean-Philippe and I, the spring teachers for France, are not allowed to
take part in the competition, so do it for us!!!! )
