My server is down for the week-end, so you will receive this
letter only on Tuesday : sorry for the inconvenience!
A la Une this week, discover a new activity : letterboxing.
Find out what it is and how to practice it, the origins in Dartmoor Forest,
the sites in the US and if you are interested, go and meet some
letterboxers in Paris this saturday. In the news, read about D-Day 60th
anniversary, which will take place next Sunday, with a visit of G.W.Bush
and lots of safety measures : read articles about it from newspapers from
various countries and discover two useful sites for class activities.
Primary school children will enjoy expressing their emotions
through painting and creating a Summer Memory Book. May 31st is World No
Tobacco Day each year : discover sites and pictures to work on this topic
with your students. Read also about summer camps, South Africa, the
Iditarod races in the snow, and Walt Whitman. Then read two articles from a
MIT research group about new media and social changes, and take part in the
poll from Versailles about how you use new technologies in your classes (in
France).
Have a nice week!

There is a meeting in Paris. Discover letterboxing and meet some

Letterboxing and Geocaching
---------------------------------------
- from Riverdeep's Classroom Flyer
"Geocaches and letterboxes--introduce your students to the growing
phenomena of treasure seeking through these unique activities, and then
perhaps start a quest of your own as a student project for the summer. Your
students will love both planning and executing these searches, while your
class or school can keep its own logbook of discovery. Consider pairing up
with a penpal class to exchange logs and discoveries." Read this excellent
article from Riverdeep's Classroom Flyer, Friday, May 28th:
http://www.riverdeep.net/current/2002/04/042202_letterbox.jhtml
- from About.com
"Letterboxing is a sport that combines walking, solving puzzles and clues,
treasure hunting and a personal flair." Read about this activity, its
history, etc. on About.com

invasion of World War II on June 6, 1944. Subjects include air operations,
art and D-Day, the German view, naval operations,
photographs, personal histories, and even the message drafted by General

(from Isabelle RICHER

Scholastic put together this page of addresses including several
suggestions of activities, including a memory book that our students can
also build from the memories in their family

Safety Paranoïa

Normandy:

Emotion Painting
-------------------------
http://www.kinderart.com/painting/emotion.shtml
"Emotion can play a great role in creating art, and students will get a
chance to explore that connection with this creative lesson plan." (from
Riverdeep's Classroom Flyer, Friday, May 28th)
[ Use this lesson to teach some vocabulary and help the students transfer
their emotion into painting. Exercises like "draw a happy line" are quite
unusual and interesting. Worth a try for creative art in this end of year
period.
To analyse a painting, you can use those simple guide line:

Create a vacation Memory Book
---------------------------------------
http://www.enchantedlearning.com/crafts/books/vacationmemory/
"Elementary students will enjoy creating their very own vacation memory
books, with trip diary pages, drawing pages, trip information, and packing
lists."(from Riverdeep's Classroom Flyer, Friday, May 28th)
[ Before starting this activity, check that all the students in your class
are going somewhere this summer. The activity will allow them to anticipate
their holidays and:
- revise the vocabulary for the clothes when they make their packing list
- work on math and geography to situate and explore virtually the place
they plan to go
As a warming up, you can invite them to work together on a virtual trip
that they will present to the class. Then the class will decide if the
content of the book is appropriate and make the necessary changes together.]

http://www.ac-versailles.fr/pedagogi/langues/sondage/
dont vous pouvez en voir les résultats en temps réel à
http://www.ac-versailles.fr/pedagogi/langues/sondage/Resultat.asp
Remplissez le formulaire, cela ne prend que quelques minutes, et nous
obtiendrons une image la plus exacte possible de l'usage des TICE en
Langues. 487 collègues ont déjà participé!
