Audio
Here is last year's news article from BBC Learning English about the commemoration
: "9/11, a day of remembrance" (text and audio file to download)

Videos
A film (911 mysteries) will be show in some cinemas and is available on the
web, trying to show that there are incoherences in the way this catastrophe
took place and was explained to the public.
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-4049590380102614532 (
1h31, in English with French subtitles)
They hint at a conspiracy, exhibit "proofs", and the whole thing
become a mystery like JFK's assassination. Here are some pages with links to
other videos featuring this controversy:

http://newyorkny911truth.org/cgi-bin/forum/Blah.pl?b-LV/
And here are some shorter videos:
- a video from BBC news announcing the collapse of the Solomon building 20
minutes before it happened. The video is long, and the 20 minutes are not really
what we need to stress, but you also have a report of the events shortly after
the towers collapsed, and you could use this document for an audio comprehension
test.
http://youtube.com/watch?v=IAgi4Z5ImRU
- "911 reopen" is a discussion stressing that the collapse of the
towers was possible only with explosives, and that the money spent on the investigations
was far fewer than the money spent on the investigations on Bill Clinton's
affair.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1gjttrtGWo (short
version)
- another film about the plane that hit the Pentagone, trying to prove that
the plane was much smaller than a 757.

Here are some more tips from our colleagues on e-teach:
Rugby Vocabulary
Michèle Henry found this page from the BBC with all the rules, names of the
positions and of the parts of the equipment. The second address is a complement
to the Survival Kit I recommended last week, in which the name of the parts
of the equipment were only in French. Here is the drawing with the words in
English

An audio file + transcript + worksheets
Sylvie Marc recommends this audio file and transcript about Jonah Lomu, with
comprehension questions.

A plan fro a teaching unit
Caritha Kibodi recommends this page from the CNDP with a lots of resources
about rugby for lower secondary school ( in French)

Haka video and text
Muriel Hostaléry found this page presenting the Haka : you can download audio
and video files, and read information about the tradition of haka, plus the
translation of some of the words.
http://www.haka.co.nz/haka.php
This comes as a useful help to complement the excellent webquest from our colleague
Sylvie Mark which was given last week (the page with the videos is there:

In the magazines

The basics in picture and sounds
Discover Hello-World, a site recommended by Annie Gwynn on eTeachNet. It
is made by an EFL teacher from Asia, and offers a nice presentation of the
basics (colors, prepositions, time, some vocabulary and some phrases like :'I
wash myself', plus some traditional songs. I'm sure primary school teachers
will find useful resources there. Ce site conviendra aussi en segpa ou pour
des révisions en collège.

Presentation of Second Life
Have you heard of this virtual word where you travel as an avatar of yourself
and can life another virtual life? BBC Learning English features a ready to
use unit with a lesson plan, plus vocabulary, the audio file and its transcript,
a quiz and links to learn more about the subject. You can use it with intermediate
students (A2+) or above.

Technology : Green Energy News (from The Scout Report -- August 31)
Bruce Mulliken has been covering news and commentary on the world of clean,
efficient, and renewable energy since 1996. His Green Energy News site is geared
towards a broad audience that includes the general public, industry professionals,
and government officials. First-time visitors will want to look at the
"News Stories" on the front page which in recent editions have included
pieces on the growing hydrogen economy, the potential of parking lots as a
form of solar power, and the possibility of a zero emission electric vehicle
with two wheels. Those looking for previous news features can browse the "Archives
and Resources" area, which dates back to April 1996. Those looking for
"green" events should browse over to the "Events Calendar" section,
which provides links to upcoming events such as renewable energy conferences
and clean vehicle expos. [KMG]

The Simpsons
BBC learning English presents the Simpson Family in the entertainment section.
You can download the programme : audio and script, and see some vocabulary.
Those files are always difficult to use as is in class, but you can download
and edit them with audacity, and use only the short passages you find relevant.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/worldservice/learningenglish/radio/specials/1555_entertainment07/
and here is where you can download all the episodes (but not more than 10 a
week)

To download videos and sound files
I had problems downloading videos. I used Mozilla Firefox with the add-on
Video Downloader, and suddenly it all can out with 'error' and no longer wanted
to download videos from you tube. here is what I found :
- to download a video from youtube, go online to Savevideodownloader. The steps
well explained, you go to the other address and just enter the URL of your
video. It gives you the downloading address and then you only have to save
it as an .flv file and it's done.
http://www.savevideodownload.com/
http://www.savevideodownload.com/download.php
- then you need either an FLV player to read the file, or a converter to convert
it into other formats that you can read on the machine you plan to play it
on. You can convert the file by downloading the free programmes Super or Mediacoder
(see the addresses on the second page) or choose to convert it online with
Mediaconvert (third address).
http://applian.com/flvplayer/download_flv_player.php
http://stephane.busuttil.free.fr/linx_video.htm#cod
http://media-convert.com/convertir/
- to download videos from Google Video, it is easier : you just click on the
button "download"
on the right, and you get the file in .mp4 format. You then may need your converter
again to convert it into the format you need.
- and to know everything about how to download, edit and convert mainly sound
but also videos, go to Stéphane Busuttil's excellent site, with addresses,
advices and tutorials:
http://capdidacaudio.free.fr/index.php
- to download sound files and any type of sound, you already know Audacity
(1st address), but you may also like Freecorder (2nd address)
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/
