Rugby : The Springboks
The Springboks from South Africa won the Rugby
World Cup against England yesterday! If you plan
to go from "Rugby" to a presentation of the
position of black people in Africa even after the
apartheid was abolished, see this video selected
by Solange Pignatelli on e-teach:
http://news.sky.com/skynews/video/videoplayer/0,,31200-1289242,.html
( to download it, download "downloadHelper" an
add-on for Mozilla Firefox, then play the video
and go to "tools" in the toolbar at the top : in
the downloadhelper section at the bottom of the
menu, you'll see "hurd_sa.flv" : right click and save on your disk.)

the article from the BBC : Rugby triumph unites South Africa
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/7054899.stm
"It was Mr Mandela who last handed the Springboks
the Webb Ellis trophy in 1995 " which you can
also hear and see in the video from sky news.
In another article from the BBC, you can read
another reference to Mandela wearing the rugby
shirt, which may have helped them win in 1995 :
"The team would later attribute its victory in
that historic final to the secret 16th player.
President Nelson Mandela turned up in the
dressing room in the minutes before the match,
wearing a Springbok shirt with the number of the
captain, Francois Pienaar, on his back. Mandela
told the team he was proud of them. It is said to
have moved Pienaar near to tears. The camera
reveals him so overcome that he was unable to
sing the national anthem before the match began. "

For students studying economics, of for students
level A1-2 whom you want to train to use
comparative and superlative in a useful way, you
can find figures about almost any thing in the
CIA World Factbook (life expectancy, HIV, median
age of the population, number of cell phones,
etc.). You can also invite your students to
compare those figures to other countries, like France and Haiti for example.

This interactive site by Anneberg presents the
fairy tale Cinderella, with sound and simplistic
drawings, and then the student can interact and
learn how the stody is built. The words are said
and written. you will find there the four steps
of a story : exposition, conflict, climax, resolution (les étapes du récit).

There are several other interactive lessons about math, sciences or US history:

Ideas for projects and discussions
Annie Gwynn on eteachNet recommends this site
with teacher's notes and students worksheets
around readers (but you can also use them with
other sources) and topics such as shakespeare, Jane Austen, detectives, atc.
http://www.macmillanenglish.com/readers/projects.html
I especially liked the worksheet about
environment, stressing the causes/consequences/solutions structure
