--> http://www.english-to-go.com
Et puis un vieux manuel de 'ballroom dancing', pour prolonger les 'barn
dances' de l'été, et des quilts pour vous protéger de l'hiver!
    Bonne lecture!

American Ballroom Companion: Dance Instruction Manuals -(LII> [LIIWEEK]
August 2)
----------------------------
The Library of Congress Music Division presents a spectacular collection of
over 200 social dance manuals printed between 1490-1929 in Europe and the
USA. Text versions and photographs are accompanied by 75 video clips
that illustrate Western dances from the Baroque quadrille to Ragtime
Maxixe. In addition to instruction manuals, there are antidance manuals,
histories, treatises on etiquette, theatrical dance, and more. The
collection can be searched by keyword in Bibliographic Information or the
Full Text as well as browsed by Subject, Author, or Title.

Quilts and Quiltmaking in America 1978-1996 -(The Scout Report -- August 6,1999)
----------------------------
The latest offering from the peerless Library of Congress (LOC)
American Memory Project showcases materials from two American
Folklife Center collections that explore "America's diverse quilting
traditions." The first collection, the Blue Ridge Parkway Folklife
Project, is an ethnographic field project conducted by the American
Folklife Center in cooperation with the National Park Service. The
collection includes over 200 photos and 181 recorded interviews (in
RealPlayer and .wav format, with transcriptions) with quiltmakers in
Appalachian North Carolina and Virginia. The second collection
features about 180 winning quilts in a variety of styles and
materials from the Lands' End All-American Quilt Contest. Users may
search the collections by keyword or browse by quiltmaker or subject.
They can also browse galleries of photos and sound recordings
directly. Three special presentations round out the site: Speaking of
Quilts: Voices from the Late 20th Century, Blue Ridge Quilters, and
The Lands' End All-American Quilt Contest. [MD]

The Food Timeline (Blue Web'n Update 8/6/99)
----------------------------
Here's an interesting way to spice up an interdisciplinary unit. As the
site introduction states, "Food is the fun part of social studies! The
tricky part is finding recipes you can make in a modern kitchen, with
ingredients bought at your local supermarket and bring into school to share
with your class." Be sure to stock up on lesson ideas in the teacher
resources section. From the Morris County Library in New Jersey. (added 8/8/99)

An estimated 20 million people visit New York's Central Park each year.
Now you can take a virtual tour of Central Park. Currently there are three
tours available, Kids Day Out Tour, Strawberry Fields Tour and the Harlem Meer Tour.

legends behind the discoveries of those animals, such as Africa's ocapi.
There is also a narration of how the legend of Loch Ness monsters came to
be and eyewitness accounts. There are experiments with sonar and
descriptions of how the sonar works. The site is done mostly using text

Headline services (ResearchBuzz #41 -- September 2)
----------------------------
Headline services: next big thing? Moreover.com is still in beta, but claims to index
headlines from 1500 sources in over 150 categories. There are some great
categories here for different industries and an excellent breakdown of
categories related to online/computing topics. I cannot see any way to
search the headlines, but the categories are narrow enough that browsing is
both possible and worthwhile.
