Bonne lecture!

FREE WEB SITE HELP FOR K-12 TEACHERS AND STUDENTS (Ed.Net Briefs September 13)
-----------------------------
Classroom.tripod.com, a new online service from Tripod, is providing free
homepage-building templates and tools to teachers and their junior-high and
high-school students. Tripod.com is the flagship community site of the
Lycos Network. Designed and tested with hands-on teacher input,
classroom.tripod.com is easy and intuitive to use. After logging in, users
select either the Student or Teacher product. Both areas feature a choice
of basic, intermediate, and advanced Web page builders. Students with
little or no previous Web experience may now make the Internet a part of
their educational experience. With Tripod's online service, they can
develop dynamic book reports or personal journals, work on group projects.
Using classroom.tripod.com, teachers can create courses and lesson plans,
as well as share class goals, assignments, and information with both
students and their parents. One of the goals of the Teacher interface is to
increase parents' involvement in their children's educations by enabling
educators and parents to directly communicate online, either publicly or
privately. A demo of Tripod's educational Web-site building tools is
available on their Web site.

Get a Grip on Robotics (TOP> [students] HomeworkCentral.com's September 7th)
-----------------------------
Real robots are a lot different from fantastic, intelligent, and/or
dangerous artificial movie versions. This handsome, animated primer
explains:
"Robots of today are not exactly the walking, talking intelligent
machines of of movies, stories and our dreams. Today, we find most
robots working for people in factories, warehouses, and laboratories. In
the future, robots may show up in other places: our schools, our homes,
even our bodies."
The center of the primer is a robotic arm, whose components are
described and illustrated, one-by-one in many sections using a 3D
animated an interactive model. Other sections include Robot Basics and a
Glossary.

Bartleby Verse: American and English Poetry, 1250-1920 (The Scout Report
September 3)
-----------------------------
The New Bartleby Library has added the texts of five additional
poetry anthologies covering American and English poetry, 1250-1920,
to its Verse page, which previously hosted _The Oxford Book of
English Verse_ (see the August 23, 1996 Scout Report). The new
additions include the _Yale Book of American Verse_ (1912), _Modern
British Poetry_ (1920), Modern American Poetry (1919), _Metaphysical
Lyrics and Poems of the 17th Century_ (1921), and the _Golden
Treasury_ (1875). All six anthologies are searchable by keyword or
browsable by author (chronological or alphabetical), title, or first
line. The anthologies are, of course, highly selective and reflect
the period in which they were originally published, representing the
canon as it stood in the first quarter of this century. [MD]

Provided by the Middle East Institute George Camp Keiser Library,

[From the website] There are over 24,000 species that are endangered or
threatened by human activities. Unless we do something quickly, they will
disappear forever. Without them, Earth's ecosystem may very well crumble.
By endangering wildlife, we are endangering ourselves. This site explains

causes of extinction; what you can do to help endangered species; detailed
information on individual species; and much more.
