Earth Day et TV Turn-Off Week.
World Earth Day 2000 is on Saturday 29 April
Here is a Happy Earth Day Card for you : http://www1.bluemountain.com/cards/box5754r/wny4giinguzzcs.htm

 TV Turn-Off Week
---------------------------
National TV-turnoff Week April 24-30, 2000 (LII> [LIIWEEK] April 17, 2000)
http://www.tvfa.org/turnoff.html

http://www.tvfa.org/
http://www.whitedot.org/
http://www.adbusters.org/
http://www.adbusters.org/campaigns/tvturnoff/
voyez leurs clips***, en particulier celui qui dit : 'the product being manufactured is you!' une phrase intéressante du point de vue grammatical:

ZapMe! (LII> [LIIWEEK] April 17, 2000)
----------------------------------------------
Primarily for teens and their educational needs, this subject directory is organized into seven categories, each of which have subject indexes. The categories range from Homework Help to Entertainment; the annotated sites are evaluated for timeliness, relevance, and educational standards. The Teachers section offers lesson plans for K-12, professional links, and "virtual field trips." The best way to navigate this site is from the Site Map, which lays out the contents of the seven categories. - smb

Exploring the environment, modules and activities (FLYER> Classroom Flyer: April 21)
----------------------------------------------
A diverse set of issues and topics comprises the overall heading of Earth Sciences. At this site, you can find the whole range--with complete lesson and curriculum unit modules to accompany them. I'm really impressed with this series-- while its focus is unique in addressing global issues with an eye to remote sensing activities, it is also wide and varied in its scope. The units are appropriate for grades 7 through 12. Topics seem to take a critical problem-solving approach, with in-depth analysis. Rift Valley Fever looks at the virus in the Great Rift Valley; students must assess its nature and transmission, while looking at how remote sensing can aid understanding and possible prevention. The Korean enigma will challenge students to examine how
the natural environment has helped shape modern North & South Korea. Other topics include Mountain Gorillas, Tropical Poison, Volcanoes, Mars Landing, Water Quality, Temperate Rainforest, Florida Everglades, El Nino, and Global Climate Change, among others. Definitely a page to bookmark!

* The Science Museum in London (The Scout Report April 21)
----------------------------------------------
The homepage of London's Science Museum hosts numerous online features and exhibitions that will appeal to a wide audience. Continually updated, the site features both companion pieces to current exhibits in the physical museum and Web-only items. Attractive, easy to navigate, and quick-loading, current offerings include Fusion, The Art of Invention, Materials, and Dolly the Sheep, among others. Numerous exhibitions offer animated or other video content in QuickTime format, and at least one section of the site (the Wellcome Wing) requires the Cortona VRML plug-in (Windows systems only). For researchers, information on various Museum resources, including an online catalog of its library, is provided.
Information for prospective visitors is also posted. [MD]

GoGraph.com (ResearchBuzz #73  -- April 20, 2000)
----------------------------------------------
GoGraph.com ( http://www.gograph.com/ ) is a new graphics database that gives the user access to several thousand animated GIF's, icons, photos, and clip art. Previously known as Graphsearch.com, this site has added many new features including 20,000 free images, 89 3D wallpapers, and searches in 6 - and soon to be 11 languages. Additionally, users are able to share and promote their own graphics under one of the categories available on the site. Searching for "Santa" found 20 images which were presented in groups of ten with file names and thumbnails. (And several links to other graphic sites in case I couldn't find graphics of interest here.) Searching for "giraffe" found six images. You can narrow your search to any combination of the following categories: Animated GIFs, photos, icons, or clip art. Worth a look.

Copernic Releases Version 4.5  (ResearchBuzz #73  -- April 20, 2000)
----------------------------------------------
Search Engine Software company Coperic released version 4.5 of their Copernic 2000 software yesterday. Their software allows you to do searches across categorized collections of search engines -- they have a tech news search, for example, and a newspaper search. You can download the software for free at
http://www.copernic.com/download/index.html . (There are plus and pro
versions that do cost money.)
