Les premières travaillent sur 'Can some music have bad influence on people?' et vont rechercher dans les textes ce qui a trait à l'influence de la musique et des médias en général. Nous ferons ensuite une mise en commun et construirons une lettre collective pour nos correspondants dans le cadre de notre projet 'let's build our future together' .
Les secondes alternent des études de textes en classe et des lectures sur ordinateur avec prises de notes pendant quatre séances, qui aboutiront à une mise en commun sous forme de débat en classe (élèves disposés en cercle) lui aussi avec prise de notes, et enfin à une expression écrite avec documents qui leur permettra de mettre en forme par écrit tout ce qu'ils auront noté sur le sujet. Ils ont aussi interrogé leurs correspondants par email pour obtenir une définition de 'bully'.

YOUTH VIOLENCE CAUSED BY HARASSMENT (Ed.Net Briefs 4.24)
-------------------------------------
A national report, entitled, "Bruised Inside," describes harassment by peers as one of two causes for kids using guns, knives and fists to express anger. The National Association of Attorneys General found that the most important factor in preventing youth violence was a stable, loving home.
But the report also detailed repeated bullying and harassment simply because students wore unusual clothing or were taller or heavier than other kids. Violent behavior does not come from violent movies or violent video games or music, the report showed. Graphic displays may desensitize children to violence, but " if you come from a loving home," one student said, "You're not going to go out and shoot people and stuff." Students contributing to the report said they need people to teach them what is right and what is important. They need someone to listen to them, give them sound advice, set boundaries and provide discipline. Mostly, they said, they need to feel that they belong. Students also said they need to learn respect for each other's differences. They must stop the teasing, taunting and harassment.

To curb the rising number of crimes being committed on the internet--including fraud, intellectual property theft, electronic hate mail, and web site hacking--the U.S. Justice Department (JD) is spearheading an all-out campaign to teach cyberethics to children.
With a $300,000 grant from JD, the Information Technology Association of America (ITAA), an IT trade organization, has organized a national education campaign to be launched in May, called Cyber Citizen Partnership. The campaign will teach kids the basics of right and wrong behavior on the internet--and how serious meddling on the web can be.

NO CLEAR PROFILE FOUND FOR SCHOOL SHOOTERS (Ed.Net Briefs April 17)

Secret Service experts say the nation's schools might be basing security efforts on misconceptions about which students are most likely to turnviolent. The Secret Service's National Threat Assessment Center shared early results from an ongoing study of 40 cases of school violence or shootings over the past 20 years. Data show students that are prone to violence tend not to make explicit threats but do communicate their intent to peers. They consistently keep adults out of the loop. And like political assassins, there is no single profile of a school shooter. This could make it difficult for school safety officials to identify problems. Assassins share no common demographic profile, are not always mentally ill or deranged; and rarely make direct threats before attacks. The study of violence-prone students has found that the students had been harassed, and some had sought help from school officials. The study also found that none of the friends who knew of the plans told an adult and students who became violent had struggled with depression.
