Dactylorhiza elata of which only the subspecies sesquipedalis can be found in France, differs by a size reaching 80 cm.

The stem is thick and compressible and leaves are generally not maculated. Flowers are large, pink to purple and shows a thick spur as long as the ovary.

Flowering from May to June.
