The building of this beautiful house designed by Guimard for the laces salesman Paul Mezzara (who lived here a few years) was achieved in 1910. The Hôtel Mezzara is remarkable for his perfect condition & the originality with which Guimard organized the spaces. To visit this place is a moving & rare experience (giving you the opportunity to understand the full scope of Guimard's ingeniousness & principles), provided by the Cercle Guimard at the occasion of a nice evening with the screening of 2 short films about Art 1900 : Franju's "Le Modern Style à Paris" and Blondel & Plantin's "Hectorologie".
The Hôtel Mezzara is the property of the Ministère de l'Education nationale & became a home for college girls.
The photographs I present here were taken in speed, before the guests massively arrive, with a bad non-reflex camera. So they are mainly of documentary & sentimental (for the folks who were present) importance.
Le Cercle Guimard proposes a unique postcards exhibition in this marvellous place. Don't miss the appointment !
Front : on the left, the caretaker's flat ; up on the rignt, the difference in color in the sky is due to a block of flats party-wall. |
Lobby : you can see on this very bad vue the stairs, the 1st floor & a fragment of the big stained glass on the roof, with its infamous phallic form. |
Sliding doors to the dining room : the graphic patterns of the glass are a foretaste of the Art-Déco style. |
The dining room ; note the guimardian carpet & the photographs on the left : amongst them a portrait of Guimard & some of the postcards "Style Guimard" he published. |
