Britain in Europe
Britain
is apart of the european
continent
Britain is located
apart of the
Europe. Why? Because there are isles
near the europeanEuropean
continent.
Since all
the time, Britain has must always
had to
defend her riqhts and her puissance
power on
the continent. The fact that Britain is isolated of from
continent
seems to
confer her a different statutstatus.
Britain have
does not have
the same
history thatas
the continent and her isolation confer her the
country a
nationalist sentimentfeeling.

Britain
in the European Union
The
European Union
was established on November 1st 1993. It is the most recent in a series
of
European organizations that originated with the European Coal and
Steel Community (ECSC) of 1951, which became the European
Community
(EC) in 1967. The members of the EEC
were Belgium, France, Germany,
Greece, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Spain,
Denmark,
Eire and particularyparticularly
Great-Britain since 1973. In 1991 the governments of the 12
member
states signed the Maastricht Treaty ,Treaty, which was then ratified. The Maastricht
Treaty
transformed the EC into the UEEU.
In 1995 Austria, Finland, and Sweden joined the UEEU. In
May 2004, 10 more countries became UE member countriesstates.
The 10 new members were Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary,
Latvia,
Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Slovakia, and Slovenia. Now, 25 countries
compose the
UE.

Today, the Europe is questionning
herself itself on
the
European Constitution. Jack Straw, the foreign
secretary, underlines the importance for those who want Britain to be
strong in
Europe of makinges the
case for
it. Jack Straw: "Britain's membership of the European Union is
vital to our prosperity and security".
But
he is meeting opposition as Michael
Ancram, Shadow foreign secretary says:
"Countries have
constitutions; nation states make treaties."

A
referendum on this question is planned soon.
Tony Blair has promised a
referendum on the constitution.

Britain
and the euro
On 1 January 2002, euro banknotes
and coins entered circulation across 12 European Union countries:
Belgium,
Germany, Greece, Spain, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, the
Netherlands,
Austria, Portugal and Finland.
Euro banknotes and coins have
been in circulation since 1st January 2002
and are now used by 300 million Europeans living in the euro area.
Like for the beginning of the UEEU,
Britain is staying
in the background ton
the question
ofthe Euro.
This
question is a real debate in the UK,
the britishBritish
british
are diviseddivided: to
keep
the pound or to join the Euro? tThat
is the question... . At
present, the public
opinion in
Britain is against joining the Euro, and for keeping the
pound.
The Labour party kept quiet about its
intention to
join the Euro and the Conservatives party campaigned to keep the pound.
.
Prime Minister, Tony
Blair has promised a referendum on
the question, which still realise after the next great
election.
It's seems that Britain stay is still hesitant
on the chances of a Euro
success . That's why British money is
always still has not
joined
the Euro.

Britain
keeps narrow links with the United States
During For a
long time, Britain keep has kept very
good strong links
with the
USA. Their complicity friendship
come under
all domainextends to
many fields.
The
latest exempleexample th
more
recent is the war in IrakIraq.
When British
army troops helped
the US armyforces.
President Bush and Prime ministerMinister
Blair are have been united
against the
terrorism during for some
years.
The two Chiefs
of States Chief have
regular
relationship to revise the world diplomatie diplomacy
for exempletoo.
Blair supports Bush "like a little dog".

ASuch a
position
like this, bothers
the European
Union. The
French President, Jacques Chirac,
denounces the UK-US alliance. He said that the Prime Minister had given the
President
Bush support in the war on Iraq and received nothing in return.
President
Jacques Chirac thinks that Tony Blair has got nothing in return for
supporting
the US in general. He havesalso
declared: "I'm not sure it is
in the nature of our American friends at the moment to return favours systematically."

We can say
that Britain has a paryticularyparticular
statutstatus
in Europe. Britain takes part timidly at in
the
European building
construction and keeps a stongstrong
link with the United
States. That's why, Britain has a strange
position in
Europe. The britishBritish
seems
have no wish to conform their views atwith the European Union’s.
Britain steps
back par rapport at are
reluctant
towards the Europe. The
British are
very conservatives of customs and roots. tThey
have face difficulties
to submit atto the
Union.
