J'ai préparé une page sur les animaux familiers pour mes secondes:

le premier questionnaire est assez difficile, mais les bons élèves
apprécient de faire varier leurs réponses pour obtenir différents
résultats. Et l'un d'entre est le 'pet rock'....!!
Les autres élèves iront directement vers le type d'animal qui les intéresse
et feront une fiche du type: name, origin, food, housing, interest,
problems....
Ce travail en autonomie a été précédé par un travail autour du texte long
sur les 'sugar gliders' (voir infonews n°106) et sera suivi d'une mise en
commun orale avec prise de notes, puis d'un compte rendu écrit.]

peut être utilisé en autonomie par des élèves. Assez proche des Pokémon
dans l'esprit: l'élève crée son animal, en lui donnant des qualités et des
défauts, puis reçoit un capital de points à dépenser en accessoires,
nourriture, super pouvoirs, etc... ensuite il engage son animal dans des
combats, et peut ainsi gagner des points supplémentaires. Mais je n'ai pas
eu la patience d'aller jusque là....]

This week scientists published a rough draft of the three billion
letters of the human genetic code. Two complete sequences were
actually released, one by a consortium of publicly funded
laboratories and the other by a private venture, Celera Genomics. To
mark this event, _Nature_ and _Science_ have published the
International Human Genome Sequencing Consortium and the US National
Human Genome Research Institute and Celera Genomics sequences
respectively. These are accompanied by research papers, commentary,

at the Hermitage Plantation in Georgia and find out. Click on items
inside the house and discover their use and meaning. One of the best
parts is the audio retelling of slave escapes, but if you don't have
sound capabilities, there is a written transcript version.

Here is another metasearch engine worth a spin. In addition to the
typical choices of search engines and directories, Metor Search also
offers specialized searching by nineteen additional categories,
including cars, downloads, news, games, recipes, and travel, among
others. Some of these only index a few engines, but in each, users
have the option to select specific engines and set a timeout span.
Search returns, which include a short description culled from the
page, appeared to be fairly relevant in test runs. [MD]

Hot Potatoes version 5 from "The Hot Potatoes team" <hotpot@uvic.ca> )

Hot Potatoes version 5, a much improved and expanded product, has just been
released.
New features in Hot Potatoes 5 include:
- support for Netscape 6 in standard (version 5) output, as well as version 4 of Netscape and versions 4 and 5 of Internet Explorer.
- simpler file distribution -- only one HTML file, even if output includes reading texts etc.
- it can now submit the student's name and score to you by email.
- they've made the scoring system more sophisticated in all the potatoes.
There are now penalties for asking for hints and clues and checking
partially complete questions. To score 100% a student must get the answer
entirely correct on the first guess.
- The interface of each potato can be changed. You can translate the entire
interface into another language French, Finnish and Dutch interfaces are
included with the Windows version of HotPot, and others are under development.
- All potatoes can now include a reading with an exercise.
- Configurable toolbar (Windows only) -- choose which menu items and
functions you want on your toolbar, and remove those you don't want.

and has great images. Be sure students read the terms of use and
understand that these are to be used for educational uses only. A nifty
feature, if you want to just browse the site, is the RAND button in the
box with the category links. This brings up a page of random images, so
you can get an idea of the scope of the collection.
