Echangez vos Keebooks! (suite de Cyberlangues 2000)

Keeboo est un logiciel gratuit téléchargeable à http://www.keeboo.com , qui vous permet de créer des 
livres virtuels. Vous choisissez un thème, rassemblez dans un répertoire 
les documents que vous voulez faire utiliser à vos élèves, puis vous les 
disposez sur les pages du livre. Ce livre virtuel peut ensuite être publié 
en format web. Les élèves vont ensuite y accéder hors connection (pas de 
risque de dérapage, utilisable en fin de journée lorsque les connections 
sont lentes ou sur des machines non connectées). La présentation dans un 
livre est très sympa, et les élèves peuvent tourner les pages et naviguer, 
tout en faisant les tâches que vous aurez conçues.
Annie Gwynn ( jet.a.gwynn@wanadoo.fr  ) nous a présenté à Cyberlangues 2000 
des livres qu'elle a réalisé sur les noirs aux US, Shakespeare et 'Mice and 
Men', utilisable dès la troisième.
Andrew Waldron (andy.waldron@wanadoo.fr  ) a fabriqué "The English Page" : 
 un livre virtuel pour professeurs et élèves, qu'il va 'publier' sur des 
postes en libre service au CDI. L'objectif est double : premièrement, aider 
profs et élèves à utiliser Internet, et deuxièmement, proposer des sites 
d'intérêt pédagogique.
Vous pouvez contacter ces collègues si vous avez besoin d'aide dans 
l'utilisation de Keeboo, ou pour qu'ils vous envoient leurs productions.

educational magazine, was founded by former professor, author and software
executive Marshall Brain. How Stuff Works combines education and
entertainment. The site was created on the premise that there should be a
place on the Internet where people can go for clear and fascinating
information on the amazing world around us, and now contains over 2000
topics. Online services have been augmented by the addition of daily
science news features, an online bookstore, branded merchandise, and
syndicated content. On the educational front, HowStuffWorks is launching a
major educational and philanthropic project, The HowStuffWorks Science and
Invention Fair, scheduled to be launched in the fall of this year. This 
will be the first ever, nationwide, totally virtual science fair for 
students of all ages.

Frontiers In History - National History Day 2001 (The Scout Report for 
Science & Engineering  August 30)

The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) presents this
handy list of 44 collections of primary source materials located in
NARA's regional centers and Presidential Libraries, geared to the
2000 - 2001 National History Day theme, Frontiers In History.
National History Day is a school-year program that encourages middle
and high school students to begin history projects in September, then
compete for awards and scholarships in state contests in the spring
and a national contest in June. The NARA list is organized into
subject areas related to various "frontiers" including Air and Space,
Atomic Energy, Civil Rights, and Society and Social Reform. Under
these broad headings are more specific subjects, such as New
Frontiers for Girls: The Girl Scout Success Story, which lets
students know that important documentation on the Girl Scouts can be
found in the Lou Henry Hoover Papers and Oral Histories of Girl Scout
Leaders, two collections at Herbert Hoover Library in Iowa. Only a
small portion of the materials listed have been digitized, so
pinpointing collections that cover History Day topics can be of great
assistance to students who are willing to travel or who wish to
identify a topic they can research locally. In addition, the list
provides specific terms, such as names and places, to guide students

It's available for Netscape and Internet Explorer. It's only available
for the Mac, so I wasn't able to test it, but it looks it might be a
handy tool.
