MAME MAHJONG GAMES

In Mahjong games emulated by MAME, you play successive "hands" against different opponents (girls for the most part of the time) usually dealing with a "total" of points (you will usually start with 1000 or 1500 points).

 For each hand, 3 results are possible :

  1. you complete a mahjong : you win points according to the quality of your hand, and your total increases

  2. your opponent completes a mahjong : points are substracted, and your total decreases

  3. no mahjong is completed : score depends if you are "tenpai" (one tile from mahjong)

MAME default keys

Z : to declare mahjong (ron) *

CTRL : to call four of a kind

ALT : to call three of a kind (brelan)

SPACE : to call sequence

LEFT SHIFT : to call "reach"

*NB : you can declare a mahjong by picking yourself the last tile needed ("tsumo") or by picking it from opponent's discard, but this will be possible only :

  1. if the tile needed isn't one you have already discarded

  2. if your hand shows any "technique" ; these techniques can be :

Three different type of scoring for MARP

Scoring with most of mahjong games available with MAME is not clear. So, after a complete study, here is a coherent scoring system, gathering games in three main categories :

1. Category A ( stands for "ADDITIVE" )
You play against several opponents one after another ; you will defeat an opponent either with a certain number of mahjongs (generally 3) or by decreasing his total under zero ; your total resets for each new opponent, so each opponent defeated will be rewarded in our scoring by 100000 points.

2. Category B ( stands for "BET" )
Based on the poker system, you bet a certain number of credits at the beginning of a game ; don't forget to be wise : to keep the credits you earn, you have to quit (by pressing ESC) before being fleeced !

3. Category C ( stands for "CUMULATIVE" )
Y
ou play against several opponents (it can be through a road or a "snakes & ladders" platform, then usually only 1 mahjong is required to defeat them and continue your course) ; total never resets and you can play as long as it stays positive.
