9 August 19441st Lt Ralph A. Hardee was the Platoon Leader of the 2nd Platoon of K Company. He leaded the attack against Chateaubriand held by German SS. He was killed few yards of the wall surrounding the chateau. For his action he won the DSC.
Sergeant Robert Lee, Light Machine Gun Squad Leader, of the Weapons Platoon, was killed in protecting the west flank of the platoon with a 30 Caliber LMG. He was awarded the Silver Star for his action.
Private First Class Joseph L. Yesecavage, fired the same LMG, after Lee, then Lankford, were killed. He killed several Germans before to be killed. He was awarded the Silver Star.Le 1st Lt Ralph A.
