Dactylorhiza savogiensis is a slender plant with a non-compressible stem (group of D. maculata), but bearing a reduced number of leaves (3 to 5), linear and maculate most of the time.
Spike is dense and bearing large red-purple flowers generally intensely coloured. Lip is rather flat and trilobate in an intermediate way between D. maculata and D. fuchsii. Spur is curved downward.
This is a mountain plant growing from 1200 to 2000m in wet to marshy meadows and peat bogs. It blooms from June to July.
