Anacamptis pyramidalis var. tanayensis is rather similar to the type-species but differs by purpurine-coloured stem and superior leaves, a deep purple spike and a slighly shorter spur.
This is a strictly alpine plant only growing in France, in Savoie and Haute-Savoie. Some authors consider this taxon as a subspecies under the name Anacamptis pyramidalis subsp. tanayensis CHENEVARD 1897
Blooming is later than the type species from mid-June to beginning of August.
