(LINNE) SPRENGEL 1826

Synonyms: Aceras hircinum, Loroglossum hircinum, Ophrys hircina, Satyrium hircinum
Common names: Orchis bouc, Lizard orchid, Bocks-Riemenzunge, Einorche, Fior capoccia

Himantoglossum hircinum is a very high orchid that can reach a size of one meter. Its shape and its strong he-goat smelling does not allow to mix it up with another flower.

Leaves are wide and flowers bear a three-lobed lip with a twisted and extremely long middle lobe unfolding in spiral when blooming.

This is a rather wide-spread flower in France blooming generally in full light from May to July.
