The division was reactivated in 1975 as Mechanized
Infantry Division under
TOE 37H, and allied tables, dated November 1970.
It was the ROAD concept improved after the Vietnam War.

The following information was provided by Ivan Feliciano.
The 1/61st Inf Reg (Roadrunners) was part of the 5th Infantry Division (Mech) during the '80's. It was in 1989 that It was merged into the 6th Inf. I believe 5/6th to be exact. We were deployed to Panama just before the change in May of '89. I was with D Co 1-61st during that time.
