Nero 5.5 is regularly updated for adds new functions and as well to correct bugs. So regularly it is necessary to go on Nero's Web site:

to download: Free NERO 5.5 Demo and upgrade from previous version, for Nero's burning update (the program will discover the previous versions automatically to make the update). 

Each time we need download full version (11 Mo) but we have no chose.

MP3 PRO
The new  MP3PRO, from Thomson Multimedia Inc and Coding Technologies is available sine June 14, 2001. It is an improvement of the MP3. 

The MP3PRO was created to have a better quality with a size of file twice as small as current MP3. 

With MP3 it is necessary to compress at bit rates of 128 kbps to obtain the "quality CD". While with MP3PRO it is only enough to encode at bite rates of 64 kbps for the same quality but the size is smaller. 

For example a title of 2:05 time the file will be of:

  • With MP3 128 kbps, 1957 Ko
  • With MP3PRO at 64 kbps, 1005 Ko
  • With MP3PRO at 80 kbps, 1225 Ko
 Coding technologies encoder
The founders of the MP3PRO claim that file MP3PRO can be read by the current players of MP3 but to have the superior quality you will need a player with the codec of the MP3PRO. 

To verify it a test was made with the encoder of NERO (version 5.5.4.0) and the encoder of Thomson Multimedia.

No problem to read those files with NeroMédiaPlayer or Windows Media Player, but DVD player  THOSIBA SD-210E is not able to read MP3PRO files.
