Crete May 2003

My first trip in a specifically sunny place in aeons really. I took so many
pictures, but scanning them can be a bit painful so I really whittled it down to
just a few here, but trust me it's a mesmerisingly beautiful country.
The Rethymno fortress.
And the view towards the city.
That's what you could see, watching the ocean from the fortress.
It's very spacious inside.
A view from the Northern coast, between Skaleta and Heraklio.
That's the hotel pool, it really looks like a postcard !
The little chapel, Agios Nikolaos, deep into the Kourtialotiko Faragi (Gorge).
The lovely 'Palm Beach', near Moni Preveli on the southcoast.
The South Coast, possibly between Moni Preveli and Plakias.
Red beach near Matala, it's a nudist beach you can only access via a rocky path.
Matala, note the remains of the ancient Roman village in the foreground. And the
Troglodytes caves.
There were some monuments on the road side where accidents had happened. This
one stood out.
The old Venetian harbour in Rethymno.
The boat wasn't really d'époque but it sailed for the tourists.
The sun sets on my final day in Crete.
