Big thanks to Edouard, Pierre and their team for this masterpiece!

The second edition of LGVMed is still under development and I'm trying to do my best to release it as soon as possible. Activities included in the distribution will be available in two versions:

-         The first version will only require the TGV Duplex,

-         The other will require both the Duplex and Clem's TGV (both for driving and for traffic).

11/24/2002

After two months of work on the second edition of LGVMed, I think it's time to give you some news. LGVMed V2.0 will be both an extension and a revision of the current route. This version will include:

  1. 120 km of new LGV route from Avignon to Valence TGV station (see the map here).
  2. Custom 3D models for most viaducts (both on current and new sections), made after photos taken on the actual route.
  3. A complete new gantry set, with many variations (more than 10 models), optimised for display speed.
  4. New signal objects and scripts, adding some interesting features to activities.
  5. A revision of some sections of the current route (position and type of switches, curves and slope variations).
  6. Many other little improvements…

The release date is not fixed yet, but looking at the work that remains to be done, it will probably require one or two months to complete it.

New maps and screenshots will be put on this site in the coming weeks.

08/31/2002

Additional features have been included in Version 1.1:

12.   Added proper speed limitations on all sidings.

13.   Added shunting white/purple light signals on main sidings and yards: these are 2 state signals (white = 30 km/h, purple = stop) that automatically trigger a 160-60-30 braking sequence on the main track, before you reach the switch that leads to the siding.

14.   Central platforms in Marseilles St Charles station have been doubled in length to allow for double TGV.

15.   Exit light signals have been added on all tracks of Marseilles St Charles and Nimes stations.

16.   TVM signals have been added on all TGV station sidings and SEI (SEI were improperly called PRCI in version 1.0, this has been corrected: all SEI of the route are in fact remote-controlled by the PRCI of Marseilles).

17.   Added missing PLM route section and road passing under the Angles Triangle viaducts.

18.   Extended the LGV a few kilometers to the north of the Angles Triangle (up to the SEI of Roquemaure).

The V1.1 will be put to beta test very soon and will probably be available within two weeks.

08/25/2002

LGVMed V1.1 "special edition" is under development and will be available in September.

Following the release of V1.0, many people, including LGV/TVM/TGV specialists, contacted me and offered their help to add more realism to the route. In August, I've also had the opportunity to travel and check things on the actual route.

Version 1.1 is the result of this combination of events and will include the following improvements:

                            1.            Added TVM approach sequences for TGV stations: when you'll have to stop at a TGV station, the TVM system will warn you many kilometers before and give you the adequate braking sequence.

                            2.            Added TGV1 and TGV2 signals in stations that give correct stop positions for single and double TGV.

                            3.            Added missing speed limitations on the LGV: some terrain configurations (i.e. some tunnels or slope variations) require a 270 km/h local slow down. They have been placed where they are in the real world.

                            4.            Removed light signals on the LGV. This decision has been taken because: 1. this is the wish of a vast majority of people 2. this is like the real thing and 3. a free TVM430 cab is now available, allowing people to use TVM with only freeware material.

                            5.            Added many missing signals at the start and end of the LGV: lower pantograph warning, lower pantograph, raise pantograph (1.5 kV – 25 kV transition), Cab III, II, I, Cab, crossed Cab (Cab signal warnings, start and end of TVM cab signal transmission).

                            6.            Added power supply cutting zones, warning signals and substations.

                            7.            Complete rebuild of Marseilles tunnel, which is now equipped with TVM.

                            8.            Adjustment of speed limitations in the Angles Triangle, taking into account a future extension to the north.

                            9.            Adjustment of speed limitations on standard sections (Marseilles and Nimes areas), repositioning of signals and speed limited zones.

                       10.            Added some "distant mountains" and other minor terrain improvements.

                       11.            Many other small improvements (adjustment of bridges, missing gantries, etc…).

Note to activity designers: if you have already released an activity or intend to release one very soon, please be aware that Version 1.1 may require some small adjustments in the timing of traffic, due to the new speed limitations (which, generally, are higher than the current ones on standard sections and lower on some special sections of the LGV). I realize this can be an inconvenience but, as the new speed limitations match the real ones, no further changes will be made. On the other hand, track laying has not been changed, so you wont have to modify your paths.

Please note that modifying the timing of traffic is in most cases not mandatory and many V1.0 activities will run flawlessly on V1.1.

LGVMed V1.0 has been uploaded to www.train-sim.com.

Please note that people at www.train-sim.com need some time to check the files and update their site: this can vary between 1 or 2 days.

Installation note: on some operating systems, the SOUND folder of the route is not automatically created during install. If you have error messages concerning .sms files, just create a SOUND folder in LGVMed and run Installme.bat again.

LGVMed V1.0 has been uploaded to the following sites:

http://perso.wanadoo.fr/spboy/LGVMed.zip

It will be uploaded to other sites before tomorrow evening.

07/29/2002

The V1.0 release is imminent and will probably occur between this evening (GMT+1) and tomorrow 07/30. Files and activities are currently being tested.

A new message will be put here as soon as the route is available.

The V1.0 will be uploaded to www.train-sim.com and maybe a few other sites (if you know a free FTP site with a good bandwidth, you can send me its address and user account to upload). Please note that people at www.train-sim.com need some time to check the files and update their site: this can vary between 1 or 2 days.

Thanks to Mike Simpson and his fabulous "Route Riter", I managed to reduce the size of the archive below 20 Mb (!), so the distribution is only in one file: LGVMed.zip.

Lastly, don't forget it's only a V1.0, some details are still missing and the route can only be used in summer, during day or night.

Have fun J.
